/ Overview
Since
its establishment in 1981, Cambridge Life Sciences
Ltd. has been committed to providing solutions
and innovative healthcare products to the clinical
diagnostic specialist.
The
companys early focus on novel biosensors
resulted in a portfolio of patented PACE technologies
that is now successfully exploited through collaboration
with some of the worlds leading diagnostic
companies. Immunosensor and biosensor developments
continue with the involvement of the company
in close co-operative projects with both commercial
and academic groups.
Cambridge
Life Sciences (CLS) also develops and manufactures
immunoassay diagnostic kits based on the enzyme
linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) principles.
It has developed two forms of ELISA: MELISA,
a range of kits based on a novel micropin solid
phase system and AUTOZYME, an ELISA range
featuring liquid ready-to-use reagents that
are designed and suitable for automated systems.
In
addition, the company has developed assays for
the detection and measurement of various drugs.
Its market leading Paracetamol and Salicylate assays are testimony
to its commitment to producing specific, rapid
and robust testing methods.
Furthermore,
it distributes products throughout the UK on
behalf of various commercial partners including
IMMCO and D-tek.
In
December 2003 the management of CLS purchased
100% of the shares from the former parent company
ALTANA Pharma AG. The divestment by ALTANA Pharma
was driven by its intention to concentrate on
its core pharmaceutical business. The deal will
permit CLS to expand its key position in the
Autoimmune kit market as well as continue to
develop its propriety positions in immunosensors
and nanotechnology for use in rapid screening
kits.
